Is that Hummus? {vegan & gluten-free}

Who doesn't love hummus? It's tasty and makes for a good snack or an excellent 'pizza' topping. Here is my tried-and-true recipe for hummus.


Spicy Hummus

Prep time: 10 minutes

Total time: 10 minutes


One 15-ounce can of chickpeas, drained and 2 tablespoons of liquid reserved

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup tahini

3-4 cloves of garlic, peeled

1-3 tablespoons Sriracha hot sauce

Garnish: 1 tablespoon chili sauce (I use Huy Fong chili garlic sauce )

Garnish: 1 teaspoon fresh chopped cilantro


1. In a food processor, process together garlic, lemon juice and tahini until smooth. Process for one minute. Scrape the sides and process for an additional 30 seconds.

2. Add in chickpeas and liquid reserve. Process for one minute. Scrape the sides and check that the consistency is somewhat smooth (texture should be similar to peanut butter). If the mixture is too dense, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time and process for an additional 30 seconds. Add up to 3 tablespoons of water to achieve a smooth texture.

3. Slowly stir in Sriracha until the hummus begins to develop an orange hue. Add up to 3 tablespoons of Sriracha to achieve the desired color and flavor. 

4. Serve hummus in a small serving dish. Garnish with chili sauce and cilantro. Serve with sliced cucumber or warm flatbread.
